Andis Fade Master Review

The Andis Fade Master hair clipper stands out in appearance and performance and is one of the iconic products of Andis.
It is squarely targeted at the professional market and very popular among professional barbers.
Andis market the Andis Fade Master hair clipper as an “adjustable hair clipper best for extra close cutting, fading and tapering hair”
The Andis fade Master is quite similar to the Andis Masters. The blade is the only thing that separates both from each other.
The Andis Fade Master comes with a surgical blade ( size 00000 to 000), which gets close to the scalp for for extra close cutting, fading and tapering.
The Andis Masters is for all around hair cutting and tapering (size 000 to 1). Same clippers, different blades.

Product Description
The Andis Fade Master with Fade Blade Hair Clipper (01690) is the stuff of sci-fi movies at first glance!
It has a tough chromed aluminum housing that combines well with the black on/off button on the side and a black power cord to give it an exquisite, contrasting shiny finish.
The blinding shimmer is the first thing you will notice once you receive the Andis Fade Master hair clipper!
The motor and blades are solidly cased in a chromed and thoroughly polished aluminum housing that is unbreakable and very durable guaranteed to give you years of relentless service.
The Andis Fade Master is a little bit on the heavy side, but despite its heaviness it snugly fits into the hand like a glove.
The blade adjustment lever on the side allows you to choose how much hair you want to snip or leave giving you total length control.
Switching the Andis Fade Master on and off is a cinch thanks to the conveniently placed single thumb controlled sliding button.
You can also fine tune the buzzing into a low purr using the screw on the other side (opposite the adjusting lever and on/off button side).
The Andis Fade Master works exceptionally well right out of the “gift packaging” and continues to do so for a long time with minimal to no maintenance requirements at all.
If you are looking for a home or professional clipper that will virtually last forever and never show any signs of decreased performance then stop searching… you might have just found it!

Design Features
Below are some of the key features of the Andis Fade Master.
Hair Clipper Type
The Andis Fade Master is a professional adjustable electric hair clipper.
It is a heavy duty corded clipper that’s built to deal with any type of dry hair (course, medium or fine) with unwavering surgical precision and performance.
With a flick of the thumb, you can instantly adjust your cutting length
The blade adjustment lever on the side allows you to choose how much hair you want to snip or leave giving you total length control.
The Fade Master scores very high on versatility and it’s an all round clipper that is perfectly suitable for tapering, fading and just about any type of “hair grooming” on your body.
Motor Type & Size
One thing that really stands out about the Fade Master clipper is the quiet and cool yet steady and fine cutting action (thanks to the powerful magnetic motor and surgical blades).
The Andis Fade Master is driven by a very powerful 120V magnetic motor which operates at 14,000 cutting strokes per minute (spm) to give you a clean and precise cut.
This is way more powerful than the the usual ones normally fitted to other Andis hair clippers and most of Wahl’s models too including the pivot motor of Clippers such as the Oster Fast Feed clippers which tend to run at 7200 clipper strokes per minute (SPM)
Don’t worry your head too much with these technical details; what they basically means is that the Andis Fade Master is a reliable gadget that will never fail!
- Read more about hair clipper magnetic motors
The motor is strong enough to produce optimal power during the clipper’s lifetime. This ensures your grooming will always be perfect and there will never be any snagging or painful hair tagging… ever!
The magnetic motor driving the Fade Master is compactly installed in the aluminum housing.
The metal casing, paired with such an insane electromagnetic motor does eventually result in a heated casing. after using it on a stretch for 15 minutes long.
Most professional barbers simply rest it a bit, or simply resort to using the “Andis Cool Care” to cool the device down.
Getting a can of “Andis Cool Care” would really help things along though.
Hair Cut Length Settings
One thing that really stands out about the Andis Fade Master hair clipper is the quiet and cool yet steady and fine cutting action (thanks to the powerful magnetic motor and surgical blades).
It’s the kind of hair clipper that would turn a scary werewolf into a skinny whimpering greyhound in a flash!
You will also like the fact that you can use the Andis Fade Master without combs and still get a perfect faded cut or taper if the zero gapping is professionally done.
The blade adjustment lever on the side allows you to choose how much hair you want to snip or leave giving you total length control.
The blades can be adjusted from coarse size #000(1/50 of an inch or 0.5mm) to fine Size #00000(1/125 of an inch or 0.2mm) to give you those professional fades (including shadow fades) without much effort.
The adjustable levers on most adjustable clippers can only move from position A to position B with their levers (e.g Oster fast feed hair clippers). If you take a closer look at the Andis Fade Master adjustable lever, you’ll see gradual positions, allowing for more precise blade adjusting.
That’s the exact reason why the Andis Fade master is a top clipper for fades.
The Fade Master scores very high on versatility and it’s an all round clipper that is perfectly suitable for tapering, fading and just about any type of “hair grooming” on your body.
The sharp carbon steel blades are run by the powerful 120V magnetic motor that allows you to enjoy up to 14,000 strokes per min for that extra smooth close shave.
Blade Type & Sizes
The Fade Blades fitted on the Andis Fade Master are made of carbon steel with a surgical sharp ceramic edge.
This makes the blades tough to handle any kind of hair cutting or shaping business and still maintain cool temperatures even after long abuse.
You can also fit the blade for the Andis Masters on this hair clipper but the Fade Blade is more preferred because of it’s all round performance.
The Fade Master Blades are designed for close cuts and they can be adjusted to give you the perfect low tapers or fades.
See Video below for difference between the Andis Master and the Andis Fade Master
Andis Master Vs Andis Fade Master
As expected you need to take care of your blades if you want it to continue serving you for a long time.
It therefore goes without saying that protocol must always be followed every time you put the clippers to use.
This means adequate blade lubrication (before, during and after use) as well as proper tightening and subsequent cleaning after every use before putting them away.
Remember to always take care of the blade edge when storing your Andis Fade Master clipper because of the delicate ceramic teeth edges therefore it would be great to invest in a small storage bag in addition to a blade guard.
Cord Type & Length
Unlike cordless battery powered rechargeable clippers that juggle on the power output and overall performance, the Andis Fade Master clipper is a corded electrical hair clipper.
The fact that this clipper is plugged in to the power source for the entire haircut ensures that there is a steady supply of juice to keep the motor running at optimum levels for the entire period of use.
This guarantees you get 100% high quality service every time.
The other thing to consider with corded clippers is the length of the power cord and the availability of replacements.
Looks like Andis thought of everything because the power cord on the Fade Master is 8m long, which is enough to allow the average barber to move around the client seat with ease.
You can also find a replacement power cord that is very easy to fix for a veteran DIYer although there’s still no shame in having your handy man fix it for you or taking it back to the store technician and have it done there.
Weight & Dimension
For such a powerful tool, the Andis Fade Master sure is a small piece of equipment.
The clipper measures 6″ and weighs 1.25 lbs which is slightly heavier than most home use hair clippers.
The weight should not be a problem as the clipper fits snugly into the palm of the hand and the weight helps give the impression that this clipper is solid and packed with the right amount of power to get the job done.
Electrical Requirements
While using this clipper, you will not have to worry about re-charging the battery, or having the problem of a weak or dead battery, which will eventually make you get a replacement.
The Andis Fade Master hair clipper is an american made product and as such operates at 120 volt, 60 frequency cycle AC electrical current to run effectively.
Note: Due to the power rating, the clipper is most suitable for residents of the US and Canada.
If you are purchasing this hair clipper in the USA to use outside of the USA in another country, you are most likely to need a step down transformer which steps down from (220v to 110v) and also steps up the electrical frequency from 50Hz to 60Hz…. This is an extra expense to the cost of the hair clipper.
If you intend to use the hair clipper in the United States or in a country operating at 110v 60Hz…. you do not need any transformer or special adaptor to use the device.
Accessories
Included in the Andis Fade Master hair clipper kit are also the following accessories.
Guide Combs
Unlike some of the other professional hair clippers like the Wahl Senior, The Andis Fade Master does not come with any Guide combs
What we advise you to do is simply get the Andis Magnetic Guide Combs Set. They’re magnetic and will fit your Fade Masters perfectly for more secure, tighter cuts.
They are long-lasting and are essentially the best guards on the market. They also fit some other hair clippers such as the Oster fast Feed hair clippers
With the guide comb set, you will be able to achieve whatever look you are going for.
The 5 set of purple magnetic guards includes sizes 1/16″, 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ (or 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Andis sizes).
Storage
The Andis Fade Master is small enough to fit into a drawer but it does not come with a storage box which is in line with most professional hair cutting tools.
You may need to buy a small storage bag to prevent the blades from being damaged (scratches or chipped teeth)
The Andis Fade Master however comes with a ring at the end of the handle (where the clipper joins with the power cord), which can be used to hang the clipper on a hook for storage (with the power cord rolled up nicely of course).
Additional Accessories
Apart from the fact that you can purchase Andis Magnetic Guide Combs Set to enable you achieve varied hair styles, you can effortlessly convert your Andis Fade master into a standard Masters hair Clipper.
You can do this by exchanging the blade #00000 you find on your Andis Fade Master with a Andis #000 blade. You can purchase a Master blade size #000 to use with your Fade Master clippers which effectively converts into a standard Andis master’s Model.
Performance
All the parts of the Andis Fade Master seamlessly come together to create the perfect hair cutting and styling tool.
The combination of a powerful magnetic motor and tough sharp blade makes the Andis Fade Master an industry leader in performance and endurance. You will always get the desired results every time!
Due to the low vibrations, there’s less tremor in your hands while handling the Andis Fade Master clipper thus giving you more control
The blades’ sharpness guarantees precise cuts and tapering, regardless of hair type and density. If you want an extremely close-cutting cutter and you do a lot of bald fades, this is the clipper for you!.
Build Quality
The aluminum housing is a “tough nut” and it is designed to last a very long time since it’s also chromed and stainless/rust resistant.
Every part (including the powerful magnetic motor and the carbon steel Fade Blade) is firmly screwed into place to give you that perfect easy buzz and low vibration with virtually no clatter at all.
The Fade Master gives you more operating power without feeling like a jackhammer! The smooth ergonomic curves allow you to have a solid grip on the clipper to give you steady aligned cuts and well controlled finer trims.
All materials used to construct the housing and the motor components are of high quality, thoroughly tested, durable and manufactured in the USA. This saves you money and lots of headaches in the long run.
Noise
Andis Master is slightly noisy and there’s little you can do about that. However, compared with other professional clippers like the Oster 76, it will run relatively quiet.
You can also fine tune the buzzing into a low purr using the screw on the other side (opposite the adjusting lever and on/off button side).
The Andis Fade Master operates with minimal noise and less vibration when everything is properly screwed into place which includes fine tuning the power screw (this MUST be done before first use).
Ease Of Use
The Andis Fade Master is a professional hair clipper and as such there’s a bit of a learning curve to master its use.
The problem is that the Andis Fade Master is fitted with surgical blades which are very sharp.
If you are not skilled and you use the clipper in the closed position…that is size #00000… you are most likely to nip the skin with it.
You can leave it in the open position which is size #000 or purchase a Master blade size #000 – 1 to use with your Fade Master clippers… and once you are skilled then fit the surgical blades.
If you’re a total beginner, you might feel overwhelmed and you might prefer easier options like the Oster fast feed.
While a bit demanding, the Andis Fade Master hair clipper will make it worth your time in the end, once you master its use.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The Andis Fade Master is extremely easy to maintain and clean.
It will take you 20 minutes to 30 minutes on average to do a thorough cleaning on the Andis Fade Master with Fade Blade hair clipper.
The easiest way to clean your blades is dipping them (while the clipper is running) into a shallow tray/bowl of cleaning oil (Andis Clipper Oil) and all hair should simply come off.
The rest can be taken care of using an old tooth brush or a small brush then you can dry the blades using the aforementioned piece of dry cloth.
Note: avoid the lubricating oil going into contact with the motor and always ensure any excess is again wiped off with a piece of cloth.
Also make sure your clipper is well lubricated before, during and after use before storing it. This will ensure it lasts longer and it continues to give you good service throughout the years. Replace any worn out or broken parts immediately they’re discovered.

Replacement Parts
The Andis brand and in particular, the Andis Fade master hair clipper is quite popular among professional barbers which makes it easier for you to easily find replacement parts for this clipper.
The surgical blades (Size #00000) fitted on the Andis Fade Master hair clipper can also be easily replaced with the ones fitted on the Andis Masters (Size #000)
You can also easily purchase and use other hair clipper guard types to achieve various hair length settings using this particular hair clipper.
User Ratings
The customer reviews on Amazon are extremely positive, with over 89% of reviewers giving the Andis Fade Master a minimum of 4 stars, citing top performance, quality construction, and ease of use.
If you’re one of those guys who can never buy anything without checking out a few customer reviews then good for you!
The average consumer ratings on the Andis Fade Master range between 3.7 and 4.2 out of a possible 5.
One of the biggest issues with the Andis Fade Master hair clippers is the fact that after about 15 minutes of continuous use… the device does gets hot as a result of its powerful motor and its metal casing. This as pointed out earlier in the review can be resolved by purchasing the “Andis Cool Care” to cool the device down.
As expected, a lot of its negative reviews only come from non professional users who have bought defective secondhand Andis Fade Master hair clippers online (of course most of the customers reported missing teeth or a rattling annoying motor… nothing about the actual clipper’s performance!).
All reviews from consumers who bought new clippers or secondhand clippers in good condition only sang praises for the Andis Fade Master clipper which is totally expected.
Belo are some of what users have to say about the Andis Fade Master Hair Clipper:
.
The only thing is … if you take long to cut your hair, it will get hot, so give it breaks if you find yourself taking a long time. Cleaning is very simple as I believe (and hope) it is water sealed tight, I can flush the blades very easily and cleanly. Its saved me tons of money now that I cut my own hair. Beautiful blade, thus far.see more user reviews here

I just bought the andis outliner 2 & I’m really having a hard time making it sharp like the barbershops any suggestions
Dont know what the difference is and need to make a choice in what clipper to buy !
Yeah you dumbass I need to know why the fade masters are better ? Do you not understand the question
I am looking for a commercial (professional) dog clipper that runs cool and has quick release blades. Has a 300 to 3500 strokes a minute. I don’t want to use a screw driver to change sizes. What brand or model would you recommend?
